ok, i’m built like a noble ox. like i am 6′1 and i am sturdy lady. like thighs for days. if you try to move me. you will be moved. body images aside (lol, i am self conscious about my size, yeah it’s life)
so like, i am very used to girls standing next to me in public places. i end up acquiring a pack of ladies. just because women are like, that lady is a lady men stay away from. i am jerk kryptonite (usually, i get my fair share of creeps, such is life) but most men have self preservation that this 6′1 ox will break them. and i will
so usually i am in my own phone and look up to another lady standing next to me. and i will immediately look up and make eye contact and nod. like, you know, that nod. i see you and you can talk if there is something wrong. i end up on a reg basis being a defacto bodyguard to these young ladies and small women while waiting for buses and in the metro.
i am a large oak tree. i protect the other birds.
ladies, we all got roles. find tree in the wild. we’re always happy to provide shelter from the creeps.
i’ve regularly said, “move on, she doesn’t want to be your friend”
Feminist brain: despite the subversive aspect to being a female sports fan, letting men monopolise your time and emotional energy like this is playing right into what patriarchy wants. The path to female liberation, is not paved with mens’ sport.
Fun statistical fact: Cows are about 300 times more likely to kill you than coyotes.
Minor sidenote to statistical fact: If it was common for people to keep several hundred coyotes on their property and routinely chase them into a corral and handle them, this statistic would be different.
this is a great summary of ‘conditional probability’, a statistical property many people grapple with
…I feel like this post just made me realize that both coconut trees and vending machines, items often quoted in wacky death statistics, are both things that people shake vigorously often.
me, a canadian, talking to an american who’s sick or hurt: have you tried—no wait that costs money for you… what about—no no, that costs you money too, doesn’t it? …god, that’s absolutely fucking nonsense, eh? what do they expect you to do??? die????????
how to know if tumblr has been eating your asks: send yourself anywhere between 5-10 asks, ( anon or not ) but have each ask be nothing but an order in which you sent them.
i.e: the first ask says ‘1′, the second says ‘2′, etc etc.
i sent myself ten of these, both on anon and not. This was all i received back:
Tumblr is now eating asks along with notifications. We must be more interactive than ever if we want keep this form of entertainment we call the rpc. Go ahead and warn your friends or test this for yourselves.. This post is reblogable.
I just sent myself five of these. none of them came through.
I just did this myself last night and out of the ten ask I sent myself only one came through.
Please know if I’m not responding to you, your ask, or your messages, I am notwillingly ignoring you. I am however doing my best to try and stay in contact with everyone.
A Non-Historian’s Guide To Evaluating Historical “Facts” and Sources
Want to figure out whether that cool historical fact you read on Tumblr is true? Is that historical figure really gay/bi/ace? Here are some questions to ask yourself and to guide some research.
What is the source of this fact?
Who wrote the source of this fact? Is it a modern source or was it written at the time in question?
If the source is modern, what primary sources are they using?
Are they using primary sources, or are they just using old sources that were written after the fact?
The person who made the old source… who were they? WHY did they make this? What was their purpose? Are they painting the historical figure/place/etc in a good or bad light?
Are they biased in any way? What perspective are they using to approach this? Are they from that place? Are they from a rival place? Are they rich or poor?
If the historical figure is a woman, do you think misogyny would effect how she is portrayed? The same with gay figures and homophobia?
Is this fact (seriously, not casually) labelling a historical figure with a sexuality or identity that did not exist when they were alive?
Do any other sources corroborate this?
Is this just a theory being presented as a fact?
Always remember, history is a lot more complicated than “this person said it so it must be true”.
iirc this was actually the first episode they filmed with Callum and they simply weren’t sure what to do with his hairdo yet (I think shortly before starting on due south he’d filmed some things where he had platinum blond high lights -la femme nikita and possibly s1 of twitch city? idk when they filmed what- which they WERE sure they did NOT want him to have for this role, so they had to get rid of those at least) and apparently they ended up taming it down a lot on the first ep they filmed.. I don’t hate this hair personally although I definitely prefer the way he has it in good for the soul and a likely story for instance..
but yeah they experimented a lot and that’s why he has so many different hairdos in the 26 episodes he did and that’s why he calls it “experimental hair” himself probably :’)
*I don’t remember exactly where I read this info, but probably online somewhere because I can’t find it in my two companion books..
Oh, interesting. They filmed Asylum first? They went way out of order. Or where they just unsure of the order yet? I thought I read somewhere (this could be completely false) that Asylum was originally written for Vecchio. I have no idea where I got that information, though.
The hair thing makes sense because it’s definitely shorter in the beginning of season three and it looks short when it’s all flat like this. And it’s longer by the time we get to MotB.
And don’t get me wrong, he’s still attractive in this ep. He always is. I just prefer his hair to stick up a little more, lol.
again I’m not sure where I read the thing that they filmed asylum first and the bit about the hair (although I am fairly certain I did read it, which is why I’m still confident enough to post it here), so I’m not entirely sure about why they filmed them so out of order, but I did just read in my companion book when I tried to find this info back, that by the time they filmed burning down the house (so when david marciano first came back to do his part for that ep) they had been filming with callum “for 2 months” already, so they did 2 months of other eps before they got to bdth according to that book…
I think they definitely knew that that was gonna be the first episode of the season though, maybe that had something to do with david’s schedule? he didn’t return for the role of rayv because he had “other commitments” after all, so.. idk
Interesting. I’ve got one companion book but I’ve only skimmed it so far. Time to read it a little more closely.
I also have definitely read somewhere that Asylum was one of the first episodes filmed of s3, if not the very first, which is supported by more-contemporary commentary like the first comment on this lj post from 2004. I seem to remember that confirmation of this came from an interview, let me see if I can find that…
